Mr Hugh Apthorp, Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon, solely works at The London Bridge Hospital. He is highly specialised in hip surgery and joint replacement, with a special focus on rapid recovery hip replacement, minimally invasive surgery, complex and revision hip surgery, and hip problems in young adults. Mr Apthorp graduated from St Bartholomews Hospital in Medicine and Surgery, before starting his specialist orthopaedic training at St Thomas Hospital. After this he moved to Australia to study abroad, working with Professor David Wood for a year while developing his skills in complex hip surgery. He has performed over 600 primary and revision joint replacements every year since he became fully qualified. He has one of the lowest failure rates in the UK. Mr Apthorp is also an excellent educator, where he assists trainee surgeons and develops training programmes focusing on novel and advanced surgical techniques. He has developed a new rapid recovery hip replacement surgery, with his patients having some of the shortest in-patients stays for hip replacement.
